Cover to pipe crown
1.35m
Crown level 18.65 m
Pipe crown level18.650m
Pipe outside diameter0.250m
Ground level20.000m

Calculation details
Engineering equations
Crown level = invert level + outside diameter
Cover to crown = ground level − crown level
Variables
- Ground level
- Finished surface level (m)
- Invert level
- Pipe invert level (m)
- Outside diameter
- Pipe outside diameter (m)
- Crown level
- Invert level plus the outside diameter (m)
- Cover
- Depth of fill over the pipe crown (m)
Assumptions
- Levels are in metres and referred to the same datum.
- Cover is measured to the outside of the pipe at the crown.
- Wall thickness is represented by the outside diameter entered.
- Minimum cover requirements are set by the applicable authority and are not checked here.
Worked example
Ground level 20.00 m, invert level 18.40 m, outside diameter 250 mm
Crown level = 18.40 + 0.25 = 18.65 m
Cover = 20.00 − 18.65 = 1.35 m
